Misty Fjords and Ketchikan, Alaska

I took these photos from a seaplane on a cruise to Alaska. Most of the pictures on this page show the Misty Fjords National Monument, which is located in the Tongass National Forest in southeast Alaska. Be sure to see my other page of Misty Fjords photos from the same flight.

Alaska probably relies more on general aviation than any other state, since roads are often impassable due to weather or other factors, or simply don't exist. Since most of the population is near the coastline, seaplanes are a popular mode of travel.

The bottom two photos are from the approach to Ketchikan.
